True Love isn't especially the best written date sim to have landed on PC-98. It's not even one of the prettiests, by far. But it was the first bishoujo game for a lot of westerers, yours truly included, because of the English Windows 95 port released by the short-lived Otaku company in 1999. At the time, as a horny teenager, I (naturally) downloaded it in hope to get porn. But even though I was disappointed by that particular aspect, I loved the rewarding stat building system, the wholesome and funny writing, and was also impressed by the character building. As a result, that game always had a special place in my gaming memories, and it probably fueled (along with Dragon Knight III, which I downloaded roughly at the same period) my love for these obscure heavy-dithered Japanese games, which later turned out to all be PC-98 ports.
There's a modern ren'py port of this game on Steam nowadays (along with a new translation), and you still can get the old one from gog. But this is the first time an English version (based on the original 1999 script) is made available for the original version, fully real-hardware compatible as you can expect. The script system was cracked open by ikun35, and most of the script was automatically ported by a very power tool they made. I've cleaned up and reformated the text, and inserted as many hardcoded text I could in the executable. The project is something like 90% done, but there still are a couple technical issues to sort out - the most important one being the localized graphics - and a little bit of untranslated text to take care of. Kirinn, Alpharobo and Valley Bell are all contributing to this project in various ways, so there's a good hope it'll be finished quickly.
